Causes of Yeast Overgrowth
Eating a Diet Too High in Acid Forming Foods, Carbohydrates & Refined Sugar. Aged Cheese. Processed Foods, Stress, Chemicals, Toxins, Fragranced Personal Hygiene Products. These are all things that cause pH imbalance!
Spiritual/Psychological cause: There are ways you are not supporting yourself as well as you could be, which is causing anger and frustration. You may not trust your relationships with others and that makes for being rather demanding, or witholding, from others.
Candida, or Yeast Infection, can cause nearly all of the symptoms of many Stress Syndromes and can affect the mouth, digestive tract and genitals. In fact, the 'symptom' list for Candida is almost endless! It can cause stomach upset, dizziness, tiredness, aches and pains, low grade fever, burning mouth, bad breath, itchy skin, night sweats, tingling or numbness if the skin, kidney and bladder infections, PMS, diabetes, arthritis, chills, vaginitis, cravings, brain fog, irritability, mood swings, anxiety and depression, muscle twitching, sleep disorders, forgetfulness, suicidal tendencies, digestive upsets, blurred vision, binging, Asthma, indecisiveness, panic attack, heart palpitations, phobias, impotence and more. It might interest you to know that all of the symptoms I just listed here are the same exact symptoms for pH imbalance!
Treatments for Candida
Diet is crucial in beating any kind of Candida (yeast) infection. Avoid the above mentioned foods and items. Following a diet that is more alkaline than acidic is extremely important. The use of antibiotics and over-the-counter medications may also cause Candida, or make things worse.
If you are taking medication or are preparing for surgery, or have had surgery, take Lactobacillus Acidophilus supplements. I do not suggest eating alot of extra yogurt. Dairy products have been known to cause tummy upsets in some individuals and rarely contain enough Acidophilus to make a huge impact. If you must have yogurt, make sure it is plain and organic. Add your own sweetener, such as Stevia or a little honey, and a bit of fruit. See "Eating, Naturally!" for more ideas on other real and healthy sugars.
For vaginal problems, insert plain (no fruit, added sugars or dyes) yogurt into the vagina before bed. Plain yogurt contains Lactobacillus, as does the inner vagina. During a vaginal yeast infection, other normal bacteria have overgrown upsetting the ecological balance of the vagina. Applying plain yogurt, before bed, helps to restore this balance. The easiest way to do this is to insert a yogurt soaked sterile gauze square or makeup pad into the vagina at night. This can be done for a period of 7-14 days.

There are many books that are easily available on the subject of Candida, or yeast infection. Information is common-place. That is my reason for not elaborating too deeply here.
What is not common-place is that you will not hear much about pH balance (except maybe in hearing about the delicate pH balance of the vagina). Ladies, you will not have pH balance in the vagina without pH balance in the rest of your body.
Nutrition is extremely important when dealing with Candida. Remember, eating a diet too high in processed and acid forming foods (refined carbohydrates, sugar, aged cheese, etc.) can throw the body out of balance and then hold it there.
