Words of Wisdom & Warning

It is not my intention for Tarot to take the place of divine wisdom and intervention. The cards have no power of their own and cannot somehow magically predict or shape the future for you. They are cards. That is all. Understand, Tarot is to be used only as a tool to strengthen your intuition.

Prayer should always be your first choice in dealing with any situation. God is there for you and it is his power that heals you, and his alone. If you already have an escapist personality, Tarot could easily become as addictive as throwing dice, having a drink or eating that last pastry from the plate.

If you find yourself leaning on Tarot too much, it may not be for you. All of the 'Soul-full' Therapies on The Captains Lady help to heal and nurture your spirit. There are many energizing ones to choose from, such as The Aura Energy Self-Test, which gives you multiple clues about your personality and lifestyle each time you take it and offers personal information on immediate things you can do to increase your energy. It also helps you to increase your intuition as well!

Let's get started, shall we!

Within all of us are energy centers, called Chakras, that work together to keep our 'energy' system flowing at peak performance. When we are stressed, over-weight, ill or spiritually bankrupt these Chakras can become clogged. In fact, when they are clogged, we will experience tiredness, irritability and pain! It can be a vicious cycle. Without intervention, this leads to Stress Syndromes such as Chronic Fatigue, IBS, Fibromyalgia, Heart Trouble, Panic Attacks and Obesity.

Holistic Tarot

...help you to better see and understand what it is that is directly affecting your energy wellness, or distress, and what you can do to become a healthier, happier and more radiant individual!

You will need a

Deck of Tarot or Regular Playing Cards

I recommend The Rider-Waite deck if you are a beginner, but it is completely up to you to choose a deck that feels right. If you do not have a deck of Tarot, you may use regular playing cards or you can make your own.

You can do either of two things with regular playing cards.

Firstly, if you are using one deck of regular playing cards, you will be 'missing' the Major Arcana and the Knights, but will still receive empowering advice!

Eliminate the Joker(s). Jacks are Pages. Queens are Queens. Kings are Kings. Aces are Aces. Clubs are Wands, Spades are Swords, Hearts are Cups and Diamonds are Coins.

In summary, if you are using a regular deck of cards, you will have Pips (2-10), Pages, Queens, Kings and Aces to work with. Don't fret. You don't have to remember this! Your questions will be answered, regardless. You can view 'card meanings' now if you like, to get an idea of how a card might read!

Secondly, you can make up your own Tarot deck by incorporating a second deck into the first. Take one of the Jokers from either deck and make that your Fool. Take another four cards and make them your Knights. Then, take another 21 cards and make them your Major Arcana or 'Trump' cards. You can do this with a marker. When you are done, you will have all 78 cards to work with.

Or...Make Your Own Cards

If all of this makes you crazy, you can buy index cards and write the name of each card down on a blank card. On the flip side, you can write whatever you like to help you remember what it means. Add a 'U' and a 'R' at opposite ends of the inside of each card ('U' at one end and 'R' at the other)  and  you will be  able to tell if your card is upright or reversed. You will need 78 index cards. I suggest this method for anyone who would like to learn how to use the cards.

There is no music on Holistic Tarot Advice web pages, as to avoid distractions while contemplating your reading.

The Chakra Energy Centers

Within all of us are energy centers, called Chakras, that work together to keep our 'energy' system flowing at peak performance. When we are stressed, over-weight, ill or spiritually bankrupt these Chakras can become clogged. In fact, when they are clogged, we will experience tiredness, irritability and pain! It can be a vicious cycle. Without intervention, this leads to Stress Syndromes such as Chronic Fatigue, IBS, Fibromyalgia, Heart Trouble, Panic Attacks and Obesity. For more information about Chakras, visit 'Claiming Radiance!'

The Holistic Tarot

'Chakra Energy Wellness' Layout

You will want to shuffle the deck at least 3 times, or for as long as feels right. Cut the cards once and restack the deck. Beginning with the top card, you are going to turn it over as if turning the pages of a book. This first card goes face up in Card #1's position at the bottom of the layout (see below). Place Card #2 above Card #1, and so on, until you have all 7 cards in position. Put the rest of the deck aside for now.

Card #7 - Sahasrara (The Crown Chakra, or Top of Head) - Current State of Spiritual Vision, Our Connection to the Divine, Our Link to Heaven, The 'Father'. Where are you on your visionary path? What are your dreams? What spiritual and moral values do you aspire to? Our souls know that in order to accept others, we must accept ourselves. How well do you understand your dark-side? We all have one. Are you willing to take a peek at some of your own nasty little qualities in order to be more compassionate toward others (who also have them) and humanity in general? Without doing so, we cannot move on to the next level. Also, those separated from their 'Father' or 'Father Figure' can have a sense of isolation that's bigger than life. This will make it hard to connect with the 'Father' side of our 'Creator'. It can leave one feeling unprotected, isolated and in a perpetual state of limbo, of waiting for something and not knowing what. This makes it difficult to reach or attain goals, not knowing what they are. There is no guidance, no safety net, no vision. We feel pressured to do it all by ourselves, whatever 'it' is. When we have a healthy connection to the 'Father', we feel guided, well advised and safe. This card will show you where you are and what you might do to take your learning experiences and your sense of vision to the next level.

Card #6 - Ajna (The Third Eye Chakra) - Spiritual & Personal Understanding, Thinking, Perception (extrasensory as well), the Endocrine system, the Brain, the Pineal Gland, the Nervous System, Coordination, Sense of Direction, the Senses of Sight & Hearing. This chakra is also involved with the chakras above (Crown) and below it (Throat). Intuition and clairvoyance play a role with this Chakra. It is through this Chakra that we receive messages from the Creator and universal energies. When we are balanced we are able to see not only our own visions clearly, but the whole picture. Are you in tune with your spirit? What are you doing with your messages and wake up calls you receive from intuition? This card will reveal either a connection to the 'Creator' or a need for tuning in on the higher aspects of life, the spiritual, the unseen, the 'believing without seeing'. When we are out of balance, we are likely to avoid responsibility (sometimes because we do not hear our own spiritual voice and lack direction) and to feel lonely even when we aren't alone. We may experience headaches or the inability to get, and keep, perspective, or both. This card will show you where you are in 'understanding' and show you any resistance you might have toward spiritual messages, and why.

Card #5 - Vishudda (The Throat Chakra) - Communication, Creative Verbal Expression, the Arms, Shoulders, Neck and Thyroid Gland, the Sense of Hearing. When this chakra is balanced, we feel contented and at peace. We are able to express ourselves freely and allow others to do the same. How are you expressing yourself? Do you know what your needs are and are you able to communicate them? Are you timid and private, outspoken or prefer to show your feelings in action? Are you completely silent about the things on your mind? This may affect your hearing, your weight and cause tension and stiffness in your neck and shoulders. This card reveals your present ability to communicate with others about your personal needs or the needs of others.

Card #4 - Anahata (The Heart Chakra) - Love, Emotional processing, Relationships Closest to You, the Chest, the Upper Back, Lungs, Blood Circulation and Immune System. The Heart knows nothing but love and that is all that will sustain it. I am not talking of romantic love, although that is certainly processed through the Heart Chakra as well, but rather, unconditional love, the act of being loving. When the Heart Chakra is in balance, you accept yourself and others unconditionally. You will not likely be influenced by those who would want to control you. As much as some would like to think otherwise, love is a basic need. When you feel a lack of love in your life, you may find yourself catching viruses (colds, flu, 'bugs', etc.) more often. You may develop breathing problems (asthma or hyperventilation). This card will show you how you are fairing in your closest 'love' relationships with 'self', family and friends and whether they are filling you up or draining your life energy away. Sometimes it will even show you what the  'things' (projects, hobbies, work, etc.) you are in love with are doing to your energy levels.

Card #3 - Manipura - (The Stomach/Upper Abdomen Chakra) - Personal Power, the Will, the Stomach, the Gall Bladder. When we experience 'gut' feelings, it is from this Chakra. When we feel good about who we are, we are balanced. When our personal power or will is threatened or squelched, either by others or by our own perceived fears, we often get stomach aches, ulcers or irritable bowel. Our muscular system, eyesight and skin may be affected. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain are in the picture here. This stems from the flight or fight response. Our adrenalin gets going when we feel powerless or held back. Our inner strength is measured by the meaning of this card. You may be shown those situations, people or events in your life that promote your sense of personal power and autonomy, or those that do not.

Card #2 - Svadisthana - (The Womb/Spleen Chakra) - Concerned with Pleasure, Connection, Sexual and Reproductive experiences, the Lower Back, Large Intestine, the Bladder and Sense of Taste & Smell. This card represents that intimate part of you that is not shared with everyone. It is a very private place within ourselves. This Chakra remembers and holds all the joys and pains associated with periods, sexual intimacy, pregnancy, child-birth or child loss and menopause. It also holds the memories of impotence, painful sexual encounters, whether emotional or physical. It is all about how you feel about your own sexuality, whether male or female. If you have had any surgeries in this area, those memories are here as well. Those who repress their emotions often have problems with lower back pain, arthritis (or arthritic type conditions), are over-sensitive and dependent on others even though they may not want to be. They tend not to breathe as deeply, nor rest as peacefully.

Card #1 - Muladhara - (The Root/Base of Spine Chakra) - Survival, Relationship with Self and Others, the Legs, Skeleton and Elimination System, Sense of Touch and "Mother'. This card represents physical day-to-day life of home, family, finances, employment, business. In a nut-shell, your natural world. This card may show activities you have been involved in, things about your diet (or addictions) and the general state of your physical energy level. It may also reveal securities or insecurities. Those who have been separated from 'mom' often lack a sense of security. Tension and stress in the natural world also cause insecurity. Something about your body, environment or your community may be pointed out to you. When you are healthy, it is difficult to be anything but secure.

Stumped?

The Holistic Tarot 'Clarification Layout'

Did one or more of your cards confuse you? Would you like more information on it's possible meanings? You may perform a Clarification reading for any or all of your cards by placing all of the cards back into the deck. You may want to write them all down first so that you don't forget them. Keeping the card in question in mind, ask Tarot to show you what this card means. Shuffle the deck at least three times. Then, go back through the deck and find your card. The cards to either side of the card in question will lend more information about your card's meaning. You can do this with all of the cards if you like. Keep pen and paper handy to take notes.

Need a "Yes/No" Answer?

Shuffle the cards at least three times, while thinking of your specific question and cut once. Turn over the top card from left to right like a page of a book. Lay this card on the table face up. The card below is shown face down.

Pip Cards

Passive numbers (3,5,7,9), your answer is "No".

Active numbers (2,4,6,8,10), your answer is "Yes".

Aces

Ace of Wands, your answer is "Yes", if Reversed, then consider 'intuition' further.

Ace of Cups, your answer is "Yes", if Reversed, then consider 'emotions' further.

Ace of Swords, your answer is "Yes", if Reversed, then consider 'thinking' further.

Ace of Coins, your answer is "Yes", if Reversed, then consider 'resources' further.

Court Cards

Kings - Your answer is "No!", if reversed, "Definitely Not!"

Queens - Your answer is "Definitely Yes!", if reversed, "There are emotional obstacles."

Knights - Your answer is "No", if reversed, "Not at this time".

Pages -Your answer is "Yes", if reversed, "You need more information."

Major Arcana

The Major Arcana always answers "Yes!" If it is reversed, it means that you must be willing to accept the lessons and do the work it entails, otherwise you may not get your longed for result.

Important Note: Every card will give you clues about your question at hand. For example, you want to know if it is wise to keep dating someone and your card is the Knight of Cups, Reversed, which means, "Not at this time." The Knight of Cups traditionally represents that Knight in Shining Armor we all want to meet, but when he falls off his horse he can be a shallow womanizer and a heart breaker. Do you really need that kind of stress? There is the potential for emotions to run amuck here, yours or someone else's. The Knight of Cups, Reversed, may be giving you a clue to back off just a little and gain your perspective before riding the waves of emotion into a bad situation. Keep dating if you like, but keep your eyes open!
