Old World Remedy Oil - 15 ml
If you have never heard of Thieves oil it probably sounds like some hokey snake oil treatment sold back in the day and you'd be half right. It was sold as a treatment, but there is nothing hokey about it. It actually worked to fight off viruses. In fact, it was the only treatment that worked to keep folks from contracting the Black Death (Bubonic Plague) in the 14th century.
Many of the modern world Thieves oils contain essential oils of Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. However, after 3 days of non-stop, extensive researching, I realized some of the Thieves oil sources out there are, at best, dubious, which is precisely why I offer The Captains Lady's Old World Remedy Oil formula.
The Captains Lady's Old World Remedy Oil formula takes Thieves oil to a whole new level and can be used as a cold, flu, virus preventative when rubbed on the soles of the feet each day, as a remedy should you come down with symptoms, as a body spray when combined with water or Witch Hazel, as a decongestant when used in a vaporizer, as an aromatic that kills germs in the air when simmered in a pot of water on the stove for 20-30 minutes, and as a sanitizer when spritzed on hands, toys, sheets, counter tops, lunch boxes and pet beds. It can also be used to prevent and relieve symptoms of cold sores and genital herpes.
Old World Remedy Oil contains pure essential oils of Cinnamon Leaf and Bark, Clove, Eucalyptus, Lemon and Rosemary, Oregano, Tea Tree, Winter Savory, Lavender, Frankincense, Myrrh and Ravensara, which are scientifically proven to contain anti-viral, anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties. Sweet Orange essential oil is added to provide an emotional lift and combat melancholy in those who are using it to combat viruses.
Topical Application for Colds & Flu
Never apply undiluted Old World Remedy Oil directly to the skin. Some of the oils are ‘hot’ and can burn sensitive skin.
Whether you are trying to prevent being ill or are already symptomatic, mix 3-6 drops of Oil World Remedy Oil with 1 Tablespoon of any other base oil you have on hand, such as such as Olive, Almond, Grape Seed, Safflower, or Jojoba before applying.
For Prevention of Colds & Flu
To help prevent colds and flu, massage onto your feet morning and night during cold and flu season or whenever you have been around anyone ill.
To Remedy Colds & Flu
Massage diluted Old World Remedy Oil into the lower back of your neck, your lower back, the back of your upper legs and your feet (tops and bottoms). Do this up to 4 times per day for up to 14 days, which is usually the normal recovery time for most viruses. You may also inhale the scent of the essential oils throughout the day either by smelling directly from the bottle 3-4 times per day or diffusing into the air.
For children 2-12 years of age, use only half the amount of Old World Remedy Oil. I do not suggest this oil being used topically for children under the age of 2. Instead, diffuse the air around them (see below), but keep the oil out of reach at all times.
Topical Application for Cold Sores, Fever Blisters, Herpes & Shingles Outbreaks
Find a small, lidded container to hold 6-12 drops of Old World Remedy Oil into 2 TB of Olive oil. This provides a 1 - 2% essential oil ratio, which is considered extremely safe when using essential oils on the skin. For this particular remedy you can go as high as a 5% ratio (30 drops to 2 Tablespoons of carrier oil), but no higher.
Apply as soon as you feel an outbreak beginning (itch, ache, burn, etc.). It will cut breakout time by half and may even halt the breakout all together.
Or, you may choose to use Old World Remedy Balm instead. It contains a stronger 5% dilution and there's no preparation necessary.
Topical Application for Mild to Moderate Ache & Nerve Pain
To use Old World Remedy Oil to soothe muscle and joint ache and pain, you'll be using a 5% dilution, which means you will be adding 30 drops of Essential Remedy Oil to 2 Tablespoons of a carrier oil, such as Olive Oil, Coconut Oil or other food-grade oil. Using an oil that absorbs easily is highly recommended, such as Grapeseed, Apricot Kernel or Rose Hip. Hemp Seed may also be used. However, any kitchen oil will do in a pinch.
DO NOT slather on Old World Remedy Oil even when it is diluted. Using too much could cause sensitivity. Apply a just a small bit of your oil mixture by rubbing into the skin directly over the muscle or joint 3-4 times per day for immediate pain relief. This remedy works best for pain close to the surface just under the skin, such as on knuckles, elbows, and feet and you may also find daily use is even more beneficial.
Water Emersion (Bath Soak)
Are you feeling as if you might be coming down with something, have a sniffle or nose getting stuffy? Feel achy all over?
Try this very basic recipe at home. Fill the tub at least half full of warm water, add one cup of sea salt and add 6-20 drops of Old World Remedy Oil. Soak for 20 minutes. Essential Remedy Oil is very potent. For sensitive noses, start with only 6 drops (no more than 20) and go from there to make sure the scent is not too strong for your liking. This should help open your sinuses, boost your immunity, and help to destroy germs that cause cold and flu. Sea salts help to relieve sore muscles, but you can use the oil alone should you not have salts on hand.
This is also a great soak for anyone suffering from bacterial or yeast infections.
Diffusing into the Air (Aromatherapy)
Essential Remedy Oil will kill airborne bacteria and prevent the spread of germs indoors when you want to clear germs out fast.
For preventative measures, diffuse Old World Remedy Oil in your environment once per day to eliminate airborne germs. You may accomplish this by adding 6-12 drops of Old World Remedy Oil to 2 TB of Olive oil or water in a cup or ceramic dish over a tea warmer for 20 minutes at a time. You may also choose to simmer up to 12 (no more than 24) drops in a 1/2 cup of water in a shallow pan on the stove. Cover the cup or pot when not in use.
You can also drop 4-6 drops of Old World Remedy Oil onto a cotton ball to place in your car, office or hotel room to kill airborne bacteria and freshen the air. Or, add a few drops to potpourri or cinnamon sticks to fragrance your home. Other essential oils may be added, such as Vanilla, Peppermint or Orange to disguise and enhance the smell if you shouldn’t care for it or would like to use diffuse holiday scents.
A diffuser can be left running in the bedroom of anyone who is sick while they sleep at night or every 3-4 hours for 20 minutes at a time. Either way, in children's rooms place the diffuser away from the bed in the corner of the room or up high so your child is not breathing direct fumes and cannot reach it, nor can pets. See Precautions below for what to do in the case of accidental poisoning.
Old World Remedy Oil contains Eucalyptus and Rosemary, which are strong oils that some may be sensitive to. When using a diffuser, be sure to follow the exact directions for your particular diffuser when using undiluted oils or follow the tips for creating a home-made diffuser above (3 paragraphs up).
Note: Old World Remedy Oil is very potent and some say just 2-3 drops in a pot of simmering water is more than enough to help them to breathe easier. Experimenting with less than what is suggested is perfectly fine.
Household Disinfectant/Odor Eliminator/ All Purpose Spray for Cleaning
As a household disinfectant spray, mix 6-12 drops of Old World Remedy Oil to each ounce of warm water you place in your spray bottle. For example, if you place 4 ounces (1/2 cup) of warm water in your spray bottle you will want to add 12-24 drops of Old World Remedy Oil to your water and shake well.
Mist in the air (as a room spray) or on counter tops, doorknobs, toys, phones, remote controls, litter boxes, pet beds, and other places that need disinfecting. Spray mattresses to help dispel bed bugs. There is no need to wipe off unless there's a chance a child or pet might handle or lick the surface.
Add 6-12 drops of Old World Remedy Oil to every ounce of Witch Hazel in a spray bottle and spray on hands or use Aloe Vera gel for a hand gel instead.
Add just a few drops (no more than 30) of Old World Remedy Oil per wash load to freshen and disinfect clothing. Use cold water and place the oils in after the tub has filled with water. Swish to mix.
Cleaning Stuffed Animals
No need to toss the Velveteen Rabbit in the trash. To disinfect and clean, place stuffed toy inside of a pillowcase and tie shut. Add 5-10 drops of Old World Remedy Oil, (for small load) to washing machine. Wash on cold, gentle cycle. If the toy cannot be machine washed, add 4-5 drops on a piece of cloth. Place the cloth in the pillowcase with the toy and toss in the dryer for 20 minutes on cool cycle.
DO NOT USE THE FULL DOSE OF ESSENTIAL REMEDY OIL ON CHILDREN. Use half the dose of Old World Remedy Oil for children ages 2-12, which is only 1-3 drops of the oil to 1 Tablespoon of Olive oil. This is a 1% dilution.
ALWAYS perform a patch test, by placing the diluted oil on a small patch of skin (dime size) on the inside of the arm and inch or so below the elbow. On children ages 2-12, perform this patch test on the top of their foot. Cover this spot with a band aid or a sock. Check every so often over the next few hours for redness, itching, hives or any other sign of irritation.
DO NOT use Old World Remedy Oil on children under 2 years old. Use the diffuse method instead and do not place the oil or diffuser directly by the child's bed or within reach.
NEVER place Old World Remedy Oil too close to the eyes, nose or mouth, never swallow, and never place in ears or in any other bodily orifice.
DO NOT use water to remove Old World Remedy Oil from your skin. Water will only make it spread. Use Olive oil or another base oil to remove it.
Essential oils, when applied topically can cause a phototoxic reaction. Meaning, if you apply them to your skin and then go out into the sunlight you may burn more easily. This applies to anything made with essential oils, whether homemade or over-the-counter, such as face creams, massage oils, body lotions, lip balms, etc.
Packaged in a 15 ml (285 drops), glass, amber, dropper bottle and labeled as shown. There is mention of herpes on the label for complete discretion and duet to the fact that this product is so versatile.
