The Hanged Man, 12/XII

The Lesson - Sacrifice

F. Leeke. ‘Odin & Brunhild’. C. 1890

The Lesson is Sacrifice: The Fool appreciates the need to let go and seek other perspectives. She is abandoning materialism, and the things of this world, in order to seek spiritual enlightenment. She is learning to choose what she will use her energy and her will towards.

The Hanged Man corresponds with Neptune and Pisces. Because you are learning to stand on your own two feet, your legs, ankles and feet may be of bother to you.

Number Associations: 12, 3  (12 = 1 + 2 = 3)

Physical Body Associations: Legs and feet.

Upright Hanged Man Energy Wellness Advice

The Hanged Man suggests that you have either been making self-sacrifices for the good of others or it is now appropriate to.

Activities may be suspended or paused. There may be some kind of freeze on life, so to speak. During this period there may be much day-dreaming.

There is an intense need to decide what is and what is not important to you.

You may want to reevaluate attitudes, goals and priorities while remaining true to spiritual values. A new direction is in the making.

You may have to let go of a selfish desire out of love, concern or responsibility for another.

Childish or selfish wishes and illusions may have to be sacrificed in order to achieve more adult dreams and goals.

It may be time to recreate yourself into the person you truly want to be.

Even though you are aware of truths, you may still find yourself in limbo. These truths will help to overcome trials eventually.

You may be torn between the old and the new, or going through a major transition. This calls for readjustment. However this is no time to rush, but rather rest and reflect.

It is possible that you may be called selfish for wanting to change things. People may not understand the unique view-point you have regarding your situation. It is likely they will not understand your perspective at all. This may cause some problems for you, but that is to be expected.

You may have been caught in a web, held at a disadvantage in some way, and are now in between the chapters of your life.

You may feel you are at a stand still, that time is moving very slowly (or not at all!), and that you’ve been drained of your energy.

What is it that has you standing on your head or swinging from a tree?

Reversed Hanged Man's Energy Wellness Advice

Are you denying an important part of yourself? Are you refusing to break with the past or not making a true effort or commitment?

Maybe you are afraid to make a sacrifice that is necessary to get on with the rest of your life and sacrificing some basic need for no good reason.

Are you playing the role of a martyr in your relationships? Are you denying your own beliefs and values?

Are you living up to someone’s expectations of you rather than who you know yourself to truly be?

Are you afraid of upending things and making others angry? Are hang ups holding you back?

Even though the reversed Hanged Man suggests a period of limbo is coming to an end, this is not the time to take action of matters of security, especially financial decisions, even if there is commitment to a significant project or ambition.

You may need to turn your world upside down in order to become the person you were meant to be.

You are capable of doing whatever it takes to living a life of deeper spiritual meaning.

You know your value system has changed (inside your heart of hearts) and you cannot go back even though you may be facing some relapses or reversals.

The Captains Lady's Energy Wellness Recommendations

You are 'heart over head' right now and are at a crossroads. How long have you felt this way?

The Hanged Man represents giving up the material aspects of the world for a more spiritually based life. This doesn't usually happen over night, but through life experiences that evolve us. At some point we may feel as though everything we ever felt was important (the car, the house, the clothes, the family business, our homes, keeping up worldly appearances, etc.) just doesn't mean that much anymore. We can find ourselves in limbo, which is fine for a time, but we need to move on to that which represents who we really are on the inside. Rather than that fancy house in the suburbs, maybe what you really want is that tiny cottage by the sea. Instead of that shallow relationship with a guy that has the body of a god, you'd rather have that guy next door type that's not totally perfect on the outside but loves you like crazy on the 'in'. Or, maybe you don't want the high demands of that paper pushing corporate job and you'd like to open your own business and sell your own products. What ever it is, it is a matter of spiritual fulfillment and you must bear the cross.

If you've already made sacrifices, they may have been good ones in the beginning, but are they still? Experiencing mood-swings is a warning that something is out of kilter.

How have your own actions brought you to this point? Reversals in fortune force us to face the opposites in life. In fact, sometimes when we are in a situation that constrains us we find that we develop great insights. We may not know what it is we want or need but we become very aware of what we do not want or need. That can be more important.

It is time to recreate yourself into the positive individual you really want to become. There may be something you need to let go of. The reversed Hanged Man suggests you have some time in deciding, but don't stay in limbo forever.

Eventually, you will learn to accept change, believe you deserve good things, and get back on your own two feet!

Until then, in becoming more spiritually oriented while you are in limbo, visit 'Creative Ritual!' for some ideas on how to get centered. 'Claiming Radiance!' also has suggestions for becoming more grounded.

Take the 'Aura Energy Self-Test'. It will give you clues as to what is important to you and why.

If a relationship has you stumped and you're just trying to hang in there, read 'Dealing with Negativity'.

A History Note: In the early days of the Romans, those who were caught stealing (or breaking the law) were hung by the ankles, upside down, and left along the paths leading into towns and cities as an example, and a warning, to those who would enter. There were paintings and engravings of these types of hangings everywhere as a reminder of how you would be sacrificed if the law were not followed. Which of your own spiritual laws are you not following, and what are you sacrificing because of it?
