When you are highly sensitive your nervous system causes your emotions to be expressed and experienced in a more physical way.
Any time you suffer from too much over-stimulation (stress) you will be more apt to experience stressful symptoms and syndromes, such as headache, fatigue, muscle pain, digestive upset, and sleep problems. You may even experience and anxiety attack or two (or three or four) due to over-stimulation of your senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, or touch).
This might make you wish to withdraw from normal daily activities and adapt a lifestyle that is less stressful, more hidden, quiet, and controlled. However, this can lead to under-stimulation (not enough engagement with your senses), which is also stressful.
Under-stimulation is often associated with boredom, unfulfilled passions, idleness, feeling a lack of direction or purpose, feeling depressed or fearful. Too much under-stimulation can backfire into attracting the wrong kind of people or beliefs into your life, neglecting your physical body or living spaces, and phobias and isolation.
Over time, both, over-stimulation (too much arousal) and under-stimulation (not enough arousal) become energy draining and lead to nothing but negative emotions. Negative emotions precede dis-ease (a state of discomfort), which is really a disturbance in energy levels that can lead to illness if not dealt with.
